Arkon Replacement Upgrade or Additional Windshield Dashboard Suction Mounting Pedestal for Garmin nuvi 40 50 1450 1200 GPS
- I\'ve seen this bracket used for many different devices from GPS units to car tuners. It\'s a good bracket but the suction cup will deform and yellow after a couple of years stuck to a car windshield. The price is low enough that it doesn\'t bother me to replace it every couple of years, so I\'d say it\'s a value.
- This suction cup for my (Garmin) GPS never falls off the windshield. It\'s so much better than Garmin\'s! It\'s stayed on through summer heat and sun and winter cold. Buy it!
- Much better that the original that came with my Garmin GPS, which kept falling off the windshield.
- The oversize clear suction cup base keeps it sticking to the window way better then the garmin default mount the GPS came with, the only real problem I have is that the ball-end on the mount is.. slightly.. smaller then the garmin mount\'s ball.. it will click on, but not hold secure.. thinking I\'ll just epoxy the garmin ball end onto the end of this mount after cutting the other off.. problem solved
- Definitely an upgrade from the Garmin mount. Thanks.
- I needed a little taller mount than what came with my Garmin GPS. Larger suction cup too than Garmin\'s. This is the mount that the Garmin should have come with considering the price of the GPS!
- Good suction provides decent grip without sticky adhesive. Some other brands I\'ve owned rely on a sticky gel-like suction pad to help maintain grip on the windshield, but this one does not - it simply relies on suction. Let me tell you why suction alone is the better option. The sticky ones always end up tearing after a year or two, and this is my best guess as to why: When the summer sun heats up the windshield and the car\'s interior, any air trapped between the pad and windshield will expand due the increased temperature. It appears that the sticky adhesive grips the windshield so firmly it limits the ability of the suction cup to accommodate the air\'s expansion, which eventually causes the suction up to tear. I also suspect the gel-like material of the sticky suction cups is weaker and more prone to tearing than a traditional suction cup. So far, I have lost 3 of the sticky ones to this type of failure. That\'s why I\'m glad this one is not the sticky type.
- My original thoughts after purchasing: I originally bought this item about a year ago. I love it.. Solid plastic, really sturdy! I like that it can adjust up and down to help the gps not have glare and face my direction. Nice that I can put the suctions on the windshield and then click the tab forward to lock it in, nice feature, don\'t remember my original giving my the feeling of it being lock in place.Update: This is about a year later from purchasing:Still a nice sturdy product. My only complaint, and why I changed from a \"love it\" to a \"like it\", I have notice an issue with the suction cup working at times. I usually keep the gps holder in my car at all times, but from time to time I will take it off to use in another vehicle. The last few times I did this I found it hard to keep on the windshield. I wonder if this is due to weather changes? I live in Louisiana, so it\'s usually hot, but it has been cold more lately.. and we have traveled a bit so I decided to take the Arkon to the vehicle we traveled with. I have found lately that it doesn\'t want to stay on the windshield like before.. I have to attempt several times. Maybe I am supposed to changed the suction out after time? This I do not know... but It is a little more challenging to get it to stick.. Once I do get it to stick, it stays.. for that reason I keep it as a like.. I do like this, just wish it worked as well as it did last year. But it still does the job.. I may eventually buy another one from here to replace the one I have since it\'s so cheap..
