  • I am using this GPS dongle with a Raspberry Pi 4B. I use the Raspberry Pi to operate amateur radio digital modes (FT8/JS8). I got the dongle so that I would have an accurate clock while operating without internet. Using the dongle on a window sill inside the house I am picking 10 to 12 satellites with no problem and getting very accurate time without an internet connection. I am very happy with this purchase. Thank you.
  • Crazy simple for me at least. My dell rugged 7220 already had the drivers installed. Just did a quick update. Plugged it into the USB and put the receiver on the hood. Drove around and some back roads with Microsoft maps and it tracked everywhere right down to the last turn. Can\'t get much better then that. Especially for the price. Just have to see how it holds up over time. Would definitely buy another.
  • Used with Bkt Time Sync for FT8 (ham radio)
  • Arrived simply packaged, but it was undamaged and seems sturdy. Works best when placed on a magnetic metal surface (I used a pie plate). Did take longer than the typical 15 minutes or so to acquire the first 3D lock (almanac downloads from multiple satellites), but once it did, was stable. I tried to use Ublox U-Center to configure it to use Galileo but it would not allow me to change any GNSS or NMEA settings, so beware if you intend to use this for Galileo or the Glonass.
  • Value
  • Using this on Kali RPi 3, 3+, 4 and PineBook Pro plug and play! Don\'t even waste your time buying that UB Global sat garbage. This just works and gets 3D fix in less than a second. Thank you
  • I would very much like to thank Oscar for his review. My primary goal was to build a time server on a stand-alone local area network and learn how a time server works in Linux. I learned how to sync my router, RPis, and Windows machines to a Linux time server. The VK-162 acquired a signal very fast. I used some hand-held GPS units about 15 years ago and it took about 3 minutes to acquire a signal. There is a Raspberry Pi GPS application that displays satellites, lat, lon, and time. I got the simple GPS application going first to verify everything was working. Then, I got my time server going. There is plenty of easily accessible info on the internet and in the Raspberry Pi forums on USB GPS dongles.I am pleased with my purchase and I am please with the price and fast shipping from Geekstory. I had no problem getting the Raspberry Pi GPS application to work and no problem getting the Raspberry Pi Zero W time server working.
  • I purchased this device to allow my Windows 10 laptop to keep an accurate track of time. The install was as quick as plugging the dongle into my laptop. Windows 10 automatically installed the required device driver. Once the driver had completed the install, I installed a free application called GPSTime . GPSTime only needs the COM port number of the dongle in order to configure it, then click on the start button. I changed the default baud rate to You can use Windows Device Manager to determine the COM port number. I then ran the application GPSTime to update my laptop clock every minute and verified that the clock is accurate. I was getting accuracy values of .007 seconds using the website IsTime.com . The device was up and running in under 3 minutes of opening the package.IMPORTANT: For a Windows install, you need to make sure that the GPSTime application is set to run as Administrator (i.e. with Administrator privileges), or else the application will not be able to update the time as it won\'t have sufficient privileges.
