• Bought this last year so I could run FT8 during FIeld Day last year since there would be no internet connection to sync my laptop\'s clock. Win7 recognized it immediately, and after a minute I had a valid satellite signal. I used BktTimeSync to sync my laptop\'s clock to GPS Time. Very happy with this USB GPS receiver\'s performance.
• I bought this for an amateur radio application, WSJT-x. Discovered I needed a precise time source. First one did not work and I was frustrated looking for drivers. But the second one worked perfectly and Windows 10 automatically installed drivers.
• When connected, this basically presents as a serial device (COM port on WIndows) that streams NMEA data.Comes in a little plastic package with a label giving the email address to get drivers etc. Email them and they respond within a day.There are drivers and a controller program (u-center) with bewildering complexity. It\'s not very intuitive.Out of the box it managed GPS fixes fine. It didn\'t seem to be pulling in GLONASS. I couldn\'t figure out how to make it do that.Inside an apartment, it struggled to get a fix when connected to my laptop on my desk. I had to get a USB extension cable and put the device by a window to get a consistent fix. Depending on your needs, you might be better off with a GPS that has a built-in cable.The real question is, what good does NMEA data do you? By itself, not much, at least not on a Windows box.Download and install gpscomplete (free trial, paid license) and it will read the NMEA serial data and feed \"sensor\" data to Windows, for use by Windows Maps, etc.Or, download nmeatime and it will read the NMEA serial data and set your Windows time to the GPS time.But don\'t expect to be able to do both at the same time, without additional work/software/config.An impressive little device. Works as advertised. Great value for the money. But if you don\'t know what you\'re doing, are not comfortable with drivers and serial port configuration and such, this may not give you what you want.
• I purchased the HiLetgo VK172 G-Mouse USB GPS/GLONASS USB GPS Receiver for Windows 10/8/7/VISTA/XP after reading the reviews. Some reviews report success using it on Windows 10, other reviews said it does not work.I find the unit I received in the \"does not work\" category. I have a small customer with a production network that must remain isolated from the Internet. The VK172 (from reviews) looked promising to provide a GPS Time based standard to be used to sync all PCs on the network. The unit was recognized by Windows 10 professional 21H2 as USB serial device when I connected it. I used Putty to make a serial connection to the device and see NMEA output. Unfortunately, the output is incomplete and not recognized by any GPS software that I could find and download, or any web site offering NMEA decoding.Other reviewers of this device recommended BktTimeSync to sync the Windows PC clock to the GPS time received from the VK172. BktTimeSync version 1.11.3 did not work with this device. The device did not work with Google Earth.A program named NMEATimePanel was able to decode the time from the VK172 but did not show Latitude, Longitude, or Altitude and the status continued to display \"searching.\"Watching some of the YouTube videos show the device LED flashing green. The unit I received never changed from solid red.I ordered two other units that both worked without drivers: VK-162 G-Mouse USB GPS Dongle, and USB GPS Receiver Antenna Gmouse for Laptop PC Car Marine Navigation/Stratux/Raspberry Pi.Both worked with BktTimeSync and when paired with Meinberg NTP package version 4.2.8p15 provided a functional GPS time based Stratum 2 NTP server for the network.
