32db High Gain Cirocomm 5cm Active GPS Antenna Ceramic Antenna 25x25x2mm Geekstory
- This antenna made all the difference when I switched it with the antenna that came with my (generic) ublock-6m GPS module. This is an ACTIVE antenna and is about 1.125\" square. It comes with a IPEX connector. It is very important to know if your GPS module requires an Active or Passive antenna. They are NOT interchangeable. The antenna will technically \"Work\" by itself, but for optimal performance, placing it on a small ground plane (piece of metal about 3\" square will make a tremendous performance difference. The ground plane works best if it has contact with the metal case on the backside of the antenna module. I can easily get 8 -10 satellites tracking while inside, away from windows (wood frame house). It will work without the ground plane, but I only get 3 - 5 satellites, and it takes longer to get the first lock. If you are exclusively using this outside, you could probably get away without the groundplane. The antenna that came with my gps module was a joke, about 1/2\" square, and I could barely got 3 -4 satellites OUTSIDE... and if weather got cloudy, no lock at all. So if you are having issues with your GPS module, perhaps this antenna will help.
- Active gain, powered antenna works great on small external antenna GPS devices. Usually, you will receive an antenna, however, typically, not an active powered higher gain antenna. These \'as delivered\' antennas work moderately OK outdoors, however indoors, the GPS needs a bit of gain increase. These antennas work very well for inside operation. Place a 5cm x 5cm thin steel sheet under the antenna as a ground plane, and the antenna works at it\'s maximum gain. Used in my lab for precision satellite acquisition indoors, and it works very well. Only use for GPS modules that provide 3-5vdc power for active antennas. Some GPS modules do not, so be sure to check your GPS module before purchase.
- I have used 4 of these units, two on conventional GPS disciplined oscillators, which supply bias to the built-in LNA, and two in a QRP Labs VFO without biasing the units. In all four cases the GPS units quickly locked up while situated inside a structure.
- Wired it directly to my PI\'s hat. The included cable is only about 6 inches, so I ended up buying an extension cable. Once I did so, I was able to get the antenna mounted a bit higher in my network rack, and now I get near-perfect GPS signal from indoors, on a near-full network rack. Perfect solution for a PI NTP stratum 0.
- I purchased this to replace a equivalently sized (unknown gain, but I suspect +28 dB) antenna that came with a uBlox NEO-6M board. I had managed to destroy my original antenna, I suspect with ESD. Anyway, I can discern no difference in performance between old and new, but working fine is better than not working.
- Antennas Matter! This one makes the one that came with my GT-U7 look pitiful. Indoors, even under solar panels, I am getting multiple satellites. This is a great antenna and I can\'t recommend it more.
- The antenna works fairly well (even indoors) on my SIM7100A breakout board (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078Y7D6RX/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_8) from Geekstory. It has slightly slower acquisition time than the included active antenna from the SIM7100A breakout board kit.
