BoxWave Screen Protector Compatible with Garmin echoMAP Ultra 106sv - ClearTouch Crystal (2-Pack), HD Film Skin - Shields from Scratches
- Update (3/31/2023):After trying the Anti-Glare version, I think I actually may prefer the glossy more as the matte is too matted to the point where it slightly blurs the sharpness of the screen and makes it look slightly hazy.So that\'s the trade-off.... Get clear if you don\'t mind it being highly reflective and susceptible to finger prints or get Anti-Glare if you don\'t mind the screen looking slightly blurry (but no finger prints or harsh reflections).--------I am rating this as 3 stars due to the level of difficulty for properly applying this w/o dust or air bubbles (-1 star). Also, it is very pricey for what it is which is 2 sheets of plastic film (not tempered glass!), it shows every single greasy fingerprint, and causes glares / acts like a black mirror (-1 star)! On this note, I am extremely skeptical of the proclaimed 9H hardness (which is usually what is for glass but not soft sheet plastic which IMO is no way the same hardness). This plastic screen protector (not tempered glass) fits perfectly onto a Garmin Echomap Ultra 10\" series chartplotter/fishfinder.However, putting it on was extremely difficult if you don\'t have a clean room completely free of dust (which 99.9% of you don\'t have access to). You will very likely trap dust particles and each one can cause an air bubble halo that ruins the clarity of the screen (uneven ripples across the screen not to mention very unsightly). No amount of smoothing out will be able to squeeze out the dust-caused air pocket. Also, note that there are 2 versions of this screen protector: Clear and Anti-Glare. I suggest getting the anti-glare as the clear is very glossy, mirror-like, and results in very high glaring under even the slightest amount of light. The original Garmin screen has a somewhat matted finish and doesn\'t reflect but once this clear protector is installed, it\'s almost like a black mirror afterwards.Here\'s what I did to get it installed w/ minimal air bubbles and dust particles sandwiched between the screen:What you will need:1. About 3\" length of 1\" wide painter\'s masking tape (like the blue 3M tape)2. A can of compressed air3. A lint-free micro fiber cloth that is lightly dampened w/ warm water4. A bright LED flash light to spot dust particles that are otherwise virtually invisibleHere\'s the steps:1. Align the screen protector w/ Step 1 facing down on the Garmin.2. Once centered, use painter\'s tape to tape the side w/ the Step 1 tab down (make sure painter\'s tape does does not cover the Step 1 tab). The screen protector should be able to fold like a book w/ the tape acting as a hinge.3. Carefully lift up the untaped side of the protector just high enough and use the micro-fiber cloth that is lightly moisten w/ warm water to wipe off any dust particles and oily fingerprints while being careful not to remove either side of the film on the screen protector. Also use the LED flashlight to shine light at an angle to reveal any dust particles (you\'ll be surprised just how much dust there is that\'s practically invisible to the naked eye, each particle can form air bubbles if not removed before adhering the screen protector)4. Once you are satisfied that the screen is clean and clear, carefully peel back the film on Step 1 tab to immediately adhere the protector on the screen. Do this quickly while not over-exposing the protector or screen for any dust to land on it. If any dust does land (which is very likely), use the can of air to gently blow it off the screen before continuing to peel back the film onto the screen. This last step is key to ensure dust does not land on the screen. You will have to work quickly while also carefully. Again, once dust is stuck on the protector, it\'s next to impossible to remove and an air bubble halo will most likely form around it which will distort the clarity of the screen (wavy, uneven). If you are successful of keeping the dust off, the screen protector is great! If you were unsuccessful, then this is screen protector is junk!Again, it does fit nicely (cut to the right size) and is sufficiently thick to protect against light scratches. But beware that this is a plastic protector, NOT tempered glass, so it will unlikely protect against being struck or gouged by something sharp. I am highly skeptical of the 9H hardness rating which I\'ve seen for tempered glass protectors. Again, this is a flexible sheet of plastic and so for the price (currently @ $28 for two sheets), it\'s rather pricey for what it is.
