  • Quality was lacking. Not the same quality as a few years ago.
  • the \'permanent\' sticky pad meant to adhere this unit to the dashboard simply DOES NOT WORK on my car ((a Subaru, which doesn\'t have an *overly textured* dashboard)). included are two sticky pads - thankfully? - and i went through both of them according to instructions, cleaning the mating surface with alcohol, pressing firmly, letting it sit for 24 hours ((72 hours, the second time)) before attaching any weight. but both times, in the heat of the day, they came un-stuck with the GPS unit attached the very first day i used them. on my dashboard, this means the GPS unit itself crashes into the floor of the car just 1/4 mile before i have to make 3 turns in rapid succession in an area i am totally unfamiliar with. not safe.so -- a little ingenuity later, and after shelling out about $8 at the hardware store for some plastic-to-plastic epoxy, i now have an *actual* permanent mount GPS holder. which is beautiful.once the issue of actually mounting the thing to the dashboard was settled, this thing performs wonderfully. i can remove the GPS and replace it with ease, turning it and adjusting it *just so* for different drivers of different sizes, and i never have to worry about a stupid suction-cup mark on my windshield, or having one fall off into the floorboard at *just the wrong moment* again. i can even put up my windshield sunshade without taking the GPS down.4 stars for the *permanent mount* not working AT ALL. i think Garmin should have included a tube of epoxy instead of those worthless sticky discs. other than that, it\'s great.so great that even though that is a really big issue, and i should have only given it 1 or 2 stars, i feel like it may work on other dashboards and i\'ve already forgotten all the trouble i had getting it attached, being so in love with the fact that my windshield is experiencing a freedom it has never known!
  • Replacement for previous mount. 3rd one for an 8in screen GPS. Underdesigned friction lock position clicker. Can\'t handle weight of larger screen Garmins. Good for about 2 years then starts moving lots with regular car maneuvers. Latest replacement has slightly undersized ball mount for GPS. Just flopped down when mounted. Fixed with some paper shim.
  • With my suction cup windshield mount letting go about twice a week, it was time for something more permanent. This dash mount worked out great. There is a nice flat plastic panel just below the windshield that most importantly has zero texture on it. I cleaned both the dash area and mount plastic base with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover followed by denatured alcohol. The adhesive pad grabbed instantly and has been rock solid for a month. Lifting up on the mount pulls the dashboard with it. I don\'t expect it to loosen up any time soon. The mount ball fit my Garmin Nuvi bracket well. It\'s tight enough to keep the GPS at the right angle, even over lovely pot hole riddled northeastern winter roads. Once locked, there was no movement of the arm or GPS at all. Overall I\'m very pleased with the setup and would buy another. After reading the reviews, it looks like a lot of dash materials are problematic. From experience, unless you have a nonporous flat area of smooth plastic or metal, get the bean bag mount instead. The supplied adhesive is excellent but only if all silicone and grease are removed first.Update (May 2, 2018): Six weeks of a solidly mounted GPS ended today. The first time the temperature went above 80 degrees the mount fell off the dashboard. I\'ll have to find a better adhesive since what comes with the mount is only reliable in cooler weather. Down to three stars because the mount works well - the tape does not. I\'m convinced no amount of surface prep will make this work in the long run.
  • Works great. Reading other reviews I think Garmin might be unfairly getting blamed for problems with the double-sided tape issues. Silicone oils are the nemesis of any paint or adhesive. They get deep into the pores of plastic and are almost impossible to remove. They also will keep adhesives for sticking. Many plastic polishing sprays have silicone oils in them. Even if your dash looks dull there is a chance someone, at some time in the car\'s lifetime used a detailing spray with silicone oils as one of the ingredients.Alcohol wipes are not very effective (but are good for other oils and dirt). There are some industrial silicone oil removal sprays but they aren\'t magic bullets either. I think I paid about 20 bulks for a spray bottle of one). As for sanding will just spread the oil around (even if you don\'t see it).Bottom line is that if you are a person that ignores your dash and never, ever details it you will have better luck verses someone that details their car.
  • The mount is excellent. The adhesive pads are terrible. Prepped the surface as directed. Both pads lasted approximately 2 weeks before giving loose. Garmin does not sell adhesive pads separately. You have to buy a whole new mount. Will make my own pads out of 3M material.
  • Very sturdy and can be positioned easy at any angle.
  • This is perfect. Even with a suction cup pad stuck to the dash my old numi66 kept coming off and ending up in the floor while driving. This mount replaced that pad and locks in the ball arm that attaches to the GPS. No more suction cup failures. Great option for portable GPS\'s that can use it. Plus you can remove the arm when you aren\'t going to use it so it doesn\'t look useless when GPS isn\'t needed. Packs away in the same space as the suction cup arm. Love it.
