Garmin AMPS Rugged Mount with Audio and Power for Montana 600 Series (010-11654-01)

  • I bought this to mount my Garmin Montana 600 on my motorcycles. Of course, shortly after mounting this on motorcycle number 2, the GPS unit started to fail. In researching a replacement Montana 600, I found it was $400 while the new Montana 700i was only $700 and I sold my in reach to cover the difference. But, the Montana 700i uses a slightly different cradle, so I had to get the new cradles for it.But this cradle worked on the Montana 600 flawlessly. It might be the pinnacle of GARMIN design.
  • I\'ve been a DeLorme GPS user for 6 years now, using both PN-40 and PN-60w with SPOT, and though I prefer their functionality and software over Garmin, I am tired of waiting for DeLorme to change their form-factor to something more useful for my needs.I purchased a Garmin Montana 600T during a trip from Washington to So Cal from a big box hunting and outdoor store. Since my primary use for these devices is dual sport and adventure riding, I needed a mount to complement the Garmin unit that could survive the rigors of a couple thousand miles off-road, on single and dual track, as well as dirt and gravel forest, fire and country roads. This unit fits the bill.I use this mount in concert with a Ram Mount ball, short arm and ball with a diamond mount plate. It\'s very rugged, and with the short arm, handle bar vibration is imperceptible on all of the bikes. I had doubts that the cradle would hold the GPS securely in all conditions, but so far, no issues whatsoever. I haven\'t even used the security screw.I highly recommend this mount for rugged use of the Montana series of Garmin\'s GPS units.
  • This thing plus the Garmin Montana GPS unit may be the best investment I\'ve made in a long time. Take care to install the power leads into an extra switched power (there is usually one behind the headlight and one under the seat on most motorcycles). When I turn the key on my bike (DR650) the unit turns on and when I turn the key off, the unit prompts me to power down or run off of battery power. The mount is very stable, I coupled it with a ram mount. Only wish I had pulled the trigger sooner. The instructions are not super helpful, I was nervous about plugging directly into 12v, but after some research I saw that others had done the same. It works like a champ and with some clean cable routing, this is a set it and forget it set up!
  • After one good weekend in the woods, this mount is still holding up well. Even after a couple of low speed falls, my Garmin Montana 650T never skipped a beat. You get the Amps Ram ball to attach to the back of this, I had to fab up my own when I realized I couldn\'t get it delivered in time for my trip. Looking forward to having the right Ram mount on this unit to clean up the install.Wiring was super easy, plenty of length to run this back to my fuse panel and wire in the power and ground. I still need to hook up a Bluetooth adapter to the audio cable to pair with my headset since the Garmin Montana doesn\'t have Bluetooth built in (yeah, I know...\"WTF Garmin?\")No support for serial connectivity yet, so those wires were just taped off in the event they add that support to the gps\' software.
  • I went through 3 windshield suction type holders for my Garmin Montana 610 to use in my Ranger and broke all 3. My neighbor had this mount for his on his enduro and told me how much he liked it so I ordered one. I\'ve been out wheeling 4 trips now and this mount is rock steady. I wired it to the ignition side so it powers up soon as I turn the key. I\'ll never sweat remembering to charge my GPS again. When you turn the ignition off the 610 will ask to power off or stay on. Very nice set up.
  • I bought this mount to go with a small ram system for my snowmobile mounted Garmin Montana. I love the idea of the security torx locking device, although I haven\'t had to use that feature. The best part, is that I don\'t have to have any cord coming from the GPS itself to the sled, just snap The GPS out and put it in your pocket. The only potential down side is that RAM is apparently no longer making the small square ball mounting plate with the AMPS hole configuration. I was still able to get it on amazon through GPS city,. but wonder how long they\'ll be available. Paying attention RAM people??
  • After just one (very long) trip it started acting up: intermittent \"External power lost\" message on GPS, pretty annoying when you have to hit \"STAY ON\" every few minutes, got to the point that I would leave it unplugged. Battery can last a while but back light is essential when trying to navigate at speed.Wiggling the wire made the power come back every time so eventually I used zip-tie for a quick fix.Contacted Amazon about this issue but since it was over 30 days they suggested contacting manufacturer, Garmin (Amazon did offer one time exception and refund for the item, but since I needed a replacement decided to get Garmin to fix it)This is where things went sour: 30 minute hold time, unanswered emails... I was getting pretty annoyed, so I called the operator and told her that I need to speak with someone NOW! 10 minutes of over the phone diagnostic and they sent me new mount, which solved the problem, but the aggravation was quite unnecessary, I understand parts can fail, especially when used in extreme conditions such as motorcycle touring but company that size should have better customer service.
  • Works great. I actually cut the cable short and put spade connectors on the 12V + and - wires and plug it into factory accessory connections on my motorcycle. I ride off-road, dirt and gravel a lot and it holds great. Love that it has the rubber contact cover built right in. Nothing to worry about keeping in pocket or losing. Couple this with a RAM handlebar mount and you\'re all set.
