Garmin Out-Front Bike Mount, Standard Packaging

  • It’s pricier than some of the plastic versions that show up on Amazon but no substitute for the original.
  • Works great, get my cycling computer out in front of hardboards and makes room for cycling lights and additional hand positions. Secure, easy to install and easy to get the cycling computer in and out.
  • After my LBS accidentally destroyed my original mount, I got this model which is sturdier and, best of all, sets up to the right of the stem. This allows me to mount my light on the left side, making the light more visible to traffic. The computer no longer blocks my light. The Allen bolt is stronger than previous mounts and it attached to the oversize center of my handlebars snugly.
  • This mount effectively moves your Edge unit forward two inches and down a bit, placing it in front of your stem and handlebars. Is it easier to view your Edge\'s display while riding? Yes, but just a little. We\'re talking 2 inches.Does the out-front mount reduce drag? Theoretically, mounting the Edge on top of the handlebars would create a bit of drag. But the Edge is so small that this amount of drag is imperceptible. Is the out-front mount more secure than the included handlebar mount with rubber bands? Maybe. I\'ve read that other people have had problems with the rubber bands not being secure enough. I\'ve had my Edge 500 for five years with just the handlebar mount with rubber bands that comes in the package. I\'ve used it on three bikes, plus a rental bike on a 1-week Backroads bike trip in Glacier National Park. I\'ve never had any problems, and I\'ve always felt very confident that my $250 bike computer is securely attached to the bike. But if you\'re not so confident, then you might get more peace of mind that your Edge is more secure in the out-front mount. Is the all-plastic construction a problem? Other companies\' mounts are mostly metal. But the Garmin Out-Front mount is made from high quality plastic and feels well put-together. I feel confident that it\'ll last years.Bottom line: If money is tight, skip this. It doesn\'t make a huge difference, and the price is high considering what it is. (It doesn\'t seem plausible that Garmin\'s cost of producing these is more than a couple dollars per unit, plus another dollar for shipping and distribution.)But if you can easily afford it, it\'s worth a try. Though the difference is small, it\'s noticeable. You won\'t have to tilt your head down as much to see the display, which is a little more comfortable and a little safer.Other reviewers seem to think the out-front makes a big difference in comfort and safety compared to handlebar mounting. Though I disagree, I respect their opinions and encourage you to check out the more favorable reviews before making your purchase decision.
  • I love the mount!! Elegant, sturdy, the device fits tight and secure. I\'m not a bike super expert. I don\'t put to much detail to weight. I ride once or twice a week. I just like to see my stats. This gives me a better viewing angle and a very clean look. Loved it!
  • Great Product, but compared to the bigger mount, this ones make your device look of center, as you can see my front light is facing a little to the left
  • This does exactly what it is made for and is very strong. However ii does NOT have the ability to except the external battery pack for the 1030 models. See picture
  • My Garmin out-front bike mount was very easy to install. It went on very quickly, and once I adjusted it to the angle that I liked, it worked so much better than when I had my Garmin 800 attached to the stem. Now I can focus more on the road ahead because I don\'t need to look down so far to see my biking info. I guess the only downfalls that I could find with it so far is 1. When I turned my bike over to fix a flat, the top of my Garmin got all dirty fro the ground (maybe I just need to adjust the angle a little more). 2. I read this in some of the reviews before I bought out-front bike mount, and I tend to agree...it is an expensive piece of plastic. Although, I have to admit, all in all, it works pretty well. Heck, for what we pay for everything else on our bikes, comparatively, it\'s really not that much. So, if you are on the fence about buying this product...just do it, you\'ll be glad you did. I am.
